Representing over 20 years of collective experience as award-winning producers, directors, environmental activists, educators, donor-activists and implementers of rigorous community engagement campaigns, Julie Parker Benello, Wendy Ettinger and Judith Helfand launched and co-founded Chicken & Egg Pictures in July 2005.
Our methodology: match strategically timed monetary grants with respectful, creative “hands-with” mentorship and take risks alongside the emergent and veteran women filmmakers we support.
Our long-term vision: we believe that powerful women storytellers, whose diverse voices represent a wide range of lived experience, can help build and sustain local and global movements for justice, equity and health.
In 2009 Chicken & Egg Pictures awarded The Barber of Birmingham a Celebration Grant to celebrate Gail Dolgin and her many years of passionate, intentional and stellar filmmaking – along with her own commitment to social justice, collaboration and mentorship.
Chicken & Egg Pictures was deeply honored to step up and executive produce The Barber of Birmingham, to insure that the film was completed, launched, and that this important story was told.
