GAIL DOLGIN, Director/ProducerAPR 4, 1945 – OCT 7, 2010
Gail Dolgin was an independent documentary filmmaker living in Berkeley, California and working out of the Saul Zaentz Media Center. She produced and directed Daughter from Danang, winner of the Sundance Grand Jury Prize for Best Documentary and nominated for an Academy Award. After a theatrical release and international festival run the film had a national broadcast on the PBS American Experience series. Her most recent film about the 1967 San Francisco Summer of Love, was commissioned by American Experience and broadcast nationally in 2007. She served on the selection committee and as a juror for many film festivals including Sundance. Originally from New York, Gail graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a degree in art history.
Her path towards documentary filmmaking was a winding intersect of photography, storytelling, social activism, and teaching. Her producer-director credits include Cuba Va: The Challenge of the Next Generation, New Bridges, Face to Face, and Why Vote. She was associate producer on the Academy Award nominated Forever Activists: Stories of Veterans of the Abraham Lincoln Brigade and has produced and directed dozens of educational and informational programs. Gail was dedicated to documentary narrative as a way to impact the world as both an artist and an activist.
